I’m back

Hello again. As I was saying, before I so rudely interrupted myself….

All of the old blogjam.name entries are still available here

Since falling silent with a severe case of blogger’s block, I have acquired two new Siamese kittens, as sadly Iti died of kidney failure early in the new year, and Nui, her brother needed company. The new arrivals are called Hinemoa (Hinny for short) and Pania (yep, you guessed it – Panny).

Their names, carrying on with the family tradition, are Maori. Hinemoa, in the legend, was a young Maori woman of Rotorua, who fell for a guy of a rival family, which lived on an island in the centre of the lake, when she heard his music drifting across the water. Her family did not approve of the affair, but Hinemoa ignored them and swam out into the lake to join him, and they lived happily ever after. Aaaaaaaah!

Pania’s story comes from Napier on the east coast of the North Island. She was, well, a mermaid, I suppose. And she fell in love with a young Maori guy and went to live with him on land, but she knew that if she ever ate anything while on land, she would never be able to return to her people in the sea. The guy found this out and planned to slip some food down her throat to while she was asleep, but she woke up and skedaddled back to the depths and was never seen again. Aaaaaah!

Anyhow, here are all three cats, doing what they do so well:
