Yesterday I had an appointment at the Royal Cornwall Hospital on the outskirts of Truro. I had a cataract operation on my right eye in July and had to go for a follow up appointment. Outside the main entrance of the hospital is a no-parking zone. A large notice warned the public of this and ended with the utterly bizarre announcement:
Infringements will be applied.
Do people not consult dictionaries any more? Spelling errors, misplaced apostrophes and the like are one thing. They rarely impair the message much. Indiscriminate word-slinging, however, is another matter entirely.
It didn’t improve my mood, either, that I had to wait an hour and half to be seen by a doctor. However, the operation appears to have been a spectocular (hehe) success.
