I have now completed units 3 and 4 of Newton, a program that provides practice in recognising GBE nuclear tones. Unit 3 concentrates on nuclei with following tail syllables and unit 4 has tones in sentences. The link to Newton is in the sidebar to the right.
As always I will be grateful for any comments.
The sound file for ‘blue’ in http://blogjam.name/newton/newton1.htm
still doesn’t work, alas!
I’m pleased to see that it works well in Safari.
I can’t hear “possibly” in Unit 3, but everything else is perfect!
John, there’s an additional empty cell defined after the one for the sound file for ‘blue’. Can’t it be deleted?
Petr,
Many thanks for that. I have deleted it. I can now hear the sound in Firefox!!!!!
Emilio,
There was a missing sound file. “possibly” should be audible now.
Good for you, but I’m afraid I still can’t enjoy it in Firefox v17, nor in IE8. I hear it in Chrome though.
Maybe, the problem has to do with the mp3-coded sound file. Some developers claim that ogg-coded files work.
BTW: I ran the tests on two machines, one with WIN XP, the other with WIN 7 (64-bit).
I can hear “possibly” loud and clear. Thanks!
Emilio, Nathan, Petr,
Many thanks to you all. I think all the sound files are working correctly now.
