Here is a list of examples:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>acre cadre centre lucre chancre ogre manoeuvre metre nitre sabre saltpetre sombre timbre<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If there is just one consonant before the ending then the vowel preceding that consonant is pronounced as a long vowel or diphthong. So, for example, <em>sabre <\/em>is pronounced <span style=\"color: #ffff00;\">\u02c8se\u026ab\u0259<\/span>, and <em>metre <\/em>is pronounced <span style=\"color: #ffff00;\">\u02c8mi\u02d0t\u0259<\/span>.
