So in General British English:<\/p>\n<p><em>Birmingham<\/em> = <span style=\"color: #ffff00;\">\u02c8b\u025c\u02d0m\u026a\u014b\u0259m<\/span><br \/>\n<em>Rotherham<\/em> = <span style=\"color: #ffff00;\">\u02c8r\u0252\u00f0\u0259r\u0259m<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Be careful of names where the element before the suffix ends in &lt;p&gt; or &lt;t&gt;. In these cases the combinations &lt;ph&gt; and &lt;th&gt; often do not represent the usual <span style=\"color: #ffff00;\">f <\/span>and <span style=\"color: #ffff00;\">\u03b8<\/span>. So <em>Clapham<\/em> is pronounced <span style=\"color: #ffff00;\">\u02c8kl\u00e6p\u0259m<\/span> not <span style=\"color: #ffff00;\">\u02c8kl\u00e6f\u0259m<\/span> and <em>Streatham<\/em> is <span style=\"color: #ffff00;\">\u02c8stret\u0259m<\/span> not <span style=\"color: #ffff00;\">\u02c8stre\u03b8\u0259m<\/span>. Unfortunately, there are some exceptions.
