A <a href=\"http:\/\/blogjam.name\/sid\/?page_id=820\">pure tone<\/a> at 1000 <a href=\"http:\/\/blogjam.name\/sid\/?page_id=824\">Hz<\/a> and at an <a href=\"http:\/\/blogjam.name\/sid\/?page_id=807\">intensity<\/a> of 40 <a href=\"http:\/\/blogjam.name\/sid\/?page_id=828\">dB<\/a> above the listener&#8217;s threshold is defined as having a pitch of 1000 mels. A frequency judged to be one tenth of the pitch of a 1000 Hz pure tone has a pitch of 100 mels and so on.
