Nowadays you can hear a lot of speakers who regularly elide ə in the first syllable of a word if the next consonant is r or l. This takes place in casual speech and results in pronunciations like those in the examples below
balloon = bluːn
collapse = klæps
teriffic = trɪfɪk
variety = vraɪəti
I wouldn’t advise you to imitate this unless you really know what you’re doing, but you should be aware that it happens because some of the results can be misleading. For instance, collapse can become identical to claps.
One word which very very many people apply this to is police, resulting in pliːs.
