:Lateral approach:

A type of plosive approach where the closure is completed by raising the side(s) of the tongue. Lateral approach occurs when plosives immediately follow homorganic lateral sounds, as in the English words hold and kilt. The diacritic often used to represent lateral approach is a small raised l before the plosive symbol as in lt
