The perceptual attribute of a sound which depends on its duration. Most languages which have quantity distinctions only have two degrees: short and long. Three degrees have been reported for Mixe, a language family of southern Mexico. An example: Short: poʃ “guava”, Long: poːʃ “spider”, Over-long: poːːʃ “knot”
